Glossary Term

    Bounce Rate

    Last updated:

Quick definition: Bounce rate is the percentage of visitors who leave a website after viewing only one page, with high bounce rates on real estate sites often indicating a mismatch between search intent and page content.

    What it means

Traditionally, a bounce was any session with one pageview and no further interaction. GA4 has shifted toward "engagement rate" instead, but the underlying concept of measuring whether visitors stay or leave remains useful.

High bounce rates are not always bad: a contact page or a phone-number landing page may bounce by design.

Why it matters for real estate SEO

Real estate agent landing pages with bounce rates above 80% usually indicate slow load, weak headlines, or wrong-intent traffic. Iterating on the first 100 words and reducing time-to-IDX often cuts bounce rate sharply.
