    IDX (Internet Data Exchange)

    Last updated:

Quick definition: IDX is the system that pulls live MLS listings into a real estate website.

    What it means

Internet Data Exchange (IDX) is the standardized feed that lets brokers and agents display MLS property listings on their own websites. IDX content updates automatically as listings change.

Most out-of-the-box IDX implementations create thousands of near-duplicate pages (same listings appearing on hundreds of agent sites), causing massive duplicate-content issues.

Why it matters for real estate SEO

Default IDX often torpedoes a site's SEO by burning crawl budget on duplicate listing pages. Organic IDX setups with canonicals, noindex rules, and unique neighborhood content prevent this.
